Nokia Reader 1.0 Beta

Nokia Reader is a free RSS reader for Symbian phones. It helps you to stay on top of news that you’re interested in by subscribing to feeds and reading them on your handset.

Once installed, Nokia Reader subscribes you to three different feeds (two from the BBC and one from The New York Times). You can view all your subscribed-to feeds in the My Feeds section, where you can add new feeds manually by typing the address.

Nokia Reader includes a content directory, where you can select feeds hand-picked by Nokia based around particular topics, such as Sports, Entertainment, and Business.

Feeds are very clearly presented in Nokia Reader. There are two different display themes available, both of which facilitate easy viewing of the latest stories. You can preview the first couple of lines of each story, but to read the full article you have to load it up in the phone’s browser. You can’t even preview images in Nokia Reader.

The inclusion of push notifications in Nokia Reader means that you need never miss out on something important.

Nokia Reader is still lacking in features that you get from other, more advanced feed readers. For example, there’s no way to import OPML files containing RSS feeds. There are no social network sharing options, and you can’t sync feeds with Google Reader.

It’s still in Beta, so hopefully more features will be added to Nokia Reader soon. At present though, it’s still a neat and convenient way to follow RSS feeds on your phone.
